In August 2016 an alliance of Austrian, English, German and Ugandan students will be forged to work once again on a school project in Kimbo, Gomba district, about 80km from Kampala, Uganda. The school belongs to the local parish.

Under the guidance of local masons and carpenters 6 Germans, 7 Kenyans, 12 Spaniards and 11 Ugandans have set up a 25×7 meters large school building in July/August 2015. The 2016 project consist of building a second edifice to complete Kimbo’s new primary school.

For more than 20 years, students from Germany and other countries have given their best to help struggling and developing communities. We have gathered an amazing experience and we want many more young students to help make this beautiful dream a reality.

It’s important to realize that UGANDA 2016 Project is not a sunny holiday vacation. We will work hard from sunrise to sunset. Of course there is time for entertainment, sports, excursions, etc. Your input is an important success factor for UGANDA 2016. Let your talents loose: Think of presentations with an introduction to the Austrian, English, German and Ugandan culture, social games or some songs on the guitar. There are a lot of possibilities. The spoken language is English.

The trip also has a spiritual goal, to help each and every person grow in the knowledge of faith and learn to give the best of self. The spiritual care of the participants is entrusted to a priest of the Prelature of Opus Dei, a Catholic institution dedicated to foster holiness in ordinary life and through professional work well done. The plan of activities includes some lectures, prayer and daily mass. It is important to note that these are optional, and each participant is totally free to attend or not; however, they are an important aspect of the training and will help the participant to achieve the goals of the trip in full. UGANDA 2016 offers an amazing opportunity for a great and unforgettable journey.

Participants The maximum number of participants in UGANDA 2016 will be 20 students. Time Our stay in Uganda will be from August 1 to 24

Costs Transport (Airplane ticket & Visa): approximately € 950 Accommodation and Food: provided by Kimbo Community Extra costs (visiting a safari): € 100

Project costs The aim is to collect € 20.000 to finance the project through private donations, government subsidies, collections at events and churches or other sources. It is important to note that the group needs to work together to collect the money as this works better than having separate collections by students on their own.

Security The venue for the UGANDA 2016 Project has been chosen based on its safety. Kimbo is a peaceful area where we will have all the safety.

PROJECT
In summer 2014 an alliance of Kenyan, Dutch and German students will be forged to work on a project in Kenya. The project consists in working on a dormitory for »Josephine Bakita Girl’s Secondary« School in Nyalienga, Homa Bay (West Kenya) and building a sport field. We will not go without experience because several German and Kenyans worked before on this project will participate this year again.
It’s essential to realize this is a project and not a sunny holiday vacation. This entails several hours of work every day. Of course there is time for distraction. Sports like soccer, or perhaps a game of rugby are part of the program. The input of the students is an important factor during the stay in Kenya. Think of presentations with an introduction to the German, Dutch and Kenyan culture, social games or some songs on the guitar. There are a lot of possibilities. The spoken language is English.
The spiritual component of the travel is formation, which is dedicated to the catholic Prelature Opus Dei. There are lectures, meditations and daily Holy Mass. Please note these are optional but an important aspect. A priest will also be part of the group – all in all »Kenya 2014« offers a lot of opportunities for a great and unforgettable journey.

PARTICIPANTS
The current project has a maximum participation of approximately 30 students, 10 of them Kenyan, 10 Dutch and 10 German students.

TIME
The stay in Kenya will be in the first three weeks August 2014

COSTS
Transfers (Airplane ticket & Visa): approximately € 900,- to 1.000,-
Accommodation and Food: provided by Nyalienga Community
Extra costs (visiting a safari): € 50,- to 100,-

PROJECT COSTS
The aim is to collect € 15.000 to 20.000 to finance the whole project trough governmental subsidies, collecting at events and churches or other sources. An interesting option mentioned before is collecting at King’s day (Dutch national feast). The group should work together to collect the money and not just some of the students on their own.

—
First Meeting
A first meeting of former participants and those preparing of the 2014 project will take place on November 9, 2013 (3 pm) in Cologne at »Rhein-Donau-Stiftung e.V.«, Friedrich-Schmidt-Straße 20 a, D-50935 Cologne. Experience, plans and programs will be discussed.

»Schule statt Straße« in Kenia: Studenten bauen Speisesaal– internationales Jugendtreffen
